Why Communication is so Important

How do you kill a dog?........ Ask three people to feed it.

We’ve all been there. I thought he said. I thought she said. I thought we said. But the truth is people are talking but effective communication is easier said than done.

And that goes for the producer/client relationship too. Without proper communication both the producer and client risk note being on the same page and worst, having an end product that now one is happy with.

So here are 2 solid ways to improve communication:

1. Have a clear frame of reference.

Watch a video together, listen to music together, and read a book together. Somehow do everything you can to give examples of what you're trying to explain to the other person.

For example, if you're doing a music project and you want an 80s vibe, take some time to listen to the top twenty 80s songs together. It will help bring a clear and solid frame of reference to help reduce the guessing game.

2. Documentation

How many times have you been in a creative meeting, everyone is getting excited, and you leave and can't remember what everyone said. This has happened to me so many times. Something really simple you can do is take notes. You can take notes, write a recap email, and then send to each other.

That’s one of the main reasons behind contracts. You’re putting things in writing so that when things get bad or good we can all remember what we said and what was promised.

Documentation can be a God send especially in a creating setting.
